I don't think it's the dime bet, per se. Just that there aren't enough possibilities, and the pool is 'dreadful'.

If you have a 12-horse field, and a $50,000 pool, it would be a whole different story. Then, I think, the dime bet is FAH-BULOUS!

But, in this case, it's a pointless gesture. I say go back to the $1 bet.
