December 1965. I was 15 and you had to be 21 to get in. My heart
was pounding when I walked through the door and saw the butler
standing there. Dania was packed with screaming fans, long betting
lines, and NO profanity. I remember Alex and Adolfo in the late
game playing with such grace and ferocity. The tote machines were
Spanish Tote, and when you called the number (W,P,S or Quiniela)
the teller moved the machine's arm to that combo and pressed down.
The tickets looked strange compared to the horse track (Tropical
Park-AmTote). Those were the days.
